Numerology Glossary
Every key numerology term, defined in plain English — your quick reference for understanding your numbers.
- Numerology
- The study of the mystical relationship between numbers and life events. It assigns numbers to your birth date and name to reveal personality, strengths, and life direction.
- Life Path Number
- The single most important number in numerology, derived from your full date of birth (reduced to 1–9 or a master number). It describes your core purpose and the path you are here to walk.
- Expression Number
- Also called the Destiny Number, calculated from all the letters of your full birth name. It reveals your natural talents and what you are here to accomplish.
- Soul Urge Number
- Also called the Heart's Desire Number, calculated from the vowels in your name. It reveals your deepest inner motivations and what truly fulfils you.
- Personality Number
- Calculated from the consonants in your name. It describes the outer self — the first impression others form of you before knowing you well.
- Birthday Number
- The day of the month you were born (1–31), reduced where relevant. It highlights a specific talent or gift you carry.
- Maturity Number
- The sum of the Life Path and Expression numbers, reduced. It points to the unifying goal that becomes clearer in the second half of life.
- Personal Year
- Your annual numerology cycle (1–9), calculated from your birth month and day plus the current year. It sets the theme of the year ahead.
- Personal Month
- A monthly cycle derived from your Personal Year plus the calendar month, giving finer timing within the year.
- Personal Day
- A daily cycle derived from your Personal Month plus the calendar day (1–9). It indicates the energy that favours a particular day.
- Master Number
- The numbers 11, 22 and 33, which are not reduced to a single digit. They carry intensified spiritual potential along with greater challenge.
- Karmic Debt Number
- The numbers 13, 14, 16 and 19, considered to carry lessons or imbalances from the past that are to be resolved in this life.
- Pythagorean Numerology
- The most common Western system, which assigns the numbers 1–9 to letters in sequence (A=1, B=2 … I=9, J=1 …).
- Chaldean Numerology
- An older system of Babylonian origin that assigns numbers 1–8 to letters by their sound vibration and treats compound numbers as significant.
- Lo Shu Grid
- A 3×3 grid from Chinese numerology that maps the digits of your birth date, revealing which energies are strong, weak, or missing in your chart.
- Pinnacle
- One of four life cycles, each spanning several years, that describe the opportunities and themes emphasised during that stage of life.
- Challenge Number
- Numbers derived from your birth date that indicate the recurring obstacles or lessons you work through across life's stages.
- Reduction
- The process of adding the digits of a number repeatedly until a single digit (1–9) remains — except for master numbers, which are kept whole.
- Angel Number
- A repeating number sequence (such as 111, 222 or 333) interpreted as a meaningful or guiding message.
- Cornerstone
- The first letter of your name, said to show how you approach life, opportunities and challenges.
- Capstone
- The last letter of your name, said to show how you finish what you start and follow things through.
- Name Correction
- Adjusting the spelling of a name so its numerological value becomes more harmonious with the person's birth numbers.
- Compound Number
- A two-digit number (10 and above) considered before reduction; in Chaldean numerology its full meaning matters, not just its reduced single digit.
- Psychic Number
- In Indian numerology, the number derived from the day of birth (reduced), reflecting how you see yourself and your innate nature.
- Destiny Number
- In Indian numerology, the number derived from the full date of birth, reflecting how the world sees you and your life's outcomes.
